Camp Hill Borough, PA (April 14, 2025) – A worker was killed and another injured early Monday morning after a FedEx semi-truck hauling double trailers struck a construction vehicle in an active work zone on Route 581.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 4:30 a.m. in the eastbound lanes of Route 581 between Exits 3 and 5. According to local reports, the FedEx truck entered the work zone and collided with a construction vehicle where two workers were inside. Both individuals had been picking up cones when the truck crashed into their vehicle. One of the workers was extricated and taken to the hospital with injuries. The second worker died at the scene due to the severity of their injuries.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities have not released the cause of the crash, but it remains under active investigation. Key legal questions will center on whether the truck driver was traveling at a safe speed, obeyed posted construction zone signage, or was distracted at the time of the crash. Construction zones carry heightened duty of care requirements for commercial drivers. There may also be scrutiny into FedEx’s training and monitoring practices. The surviving worker and the family of the deceased may have grounds for significant civil claims, including wrongful death and workplace safety violations.
