Lake Isabella, CA (July 2, 2024) – On July 2, 2024, at approximately 7:39 a.m., a tragic motorcycle accident occurred on Highway 178 near Mountain Mesa, resulting in the death of 76-year-old Ric William Hartman of Lake Isabella.
Accident Details: Hartman was traveling on his motorcycle on Highway 178 near Mobile Drive at an unknown speed. He then made an unsafe turn, which caused the motorcycle to veer off the road and into an embankment. Hartman was thrown from the vehicle. He died from his injuries.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. First, the state of Hartman’s motorcycle must be examined. Was the motorcycle properly working, or were mechanical failures that led to the unsafe turn? Also, assessing whether proper signage and road markers were present and visible can help determine if Hartman had adequate information to navigate the turn safely. Investigating the condition of Highway 178 at the time of the crash is crucial as well. Was there debris, poor road maintenance, or any design defects that could have contributed to the accident? Depending on the facts of the investigation, Hartman’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim. Note that even if the investigation finds Hartman was driving at excessive speeds, his family may still be able to recover compensation for the negligence of other parties based on California’s comparative negligence laws.
My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Ric William Hartman during this difficult time.
