San Bernardino, CA (April 12, 2025) – A fatal two-vehicle collision on the southbound 215 Freeway near 5th Street prompted a full freeway shutdown on Saturday morning, causing significant delays for drivers in the area.
Incident Details: The crash occurred around 8:40 a.m., involving a black Chevrolet Tahoe and a black Chevrolet sedan. According to CHP logs, the collision scattered major debris across multiple freeway lanes. Emergency responders performed CPR on at least one person, but the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. A SigAlert was issued shortly before 9:30 a.m., with all southbound lanes closed and traffic diverted off at 5th Street.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities have not yet released the cause of the crash or identified the deceased. As with most fatal freeway collisions, the CHP San Bernardino Division will likely assess speed, vehicle condition, road hazards, and any signs of impairment.
