HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA (December 1, 2025) — A North Dakota man was killed Monday afternoon in a collision in Huntington Beach. The Orange County Sheriff’s Department identified the victim as 25-year-old Farouk Fatouh.
Accident Details: Huntington Beach Police responded to the crash at Talbert Avenue and Brookshire Lane at about 3:30 p.m. Monday. Fatouh was riding a Honda motorcycle westbound on Talbert when he collided with a Toyota Highlander.
Police said the collision occurred as the driver of the Highlander, a 42-year-old woman from Bellflower, was making a left turn from Brookshire to Talbert. Fatouh was killed in the crash.
The driver of the Highlander escaped injury and cooperated with investigators, police said. She was not suspected of being impaired.
Investigation: Huntington Beach Police are investigating the collision between the motorcycle and the Toyota. Authorities have not indicated whether any citations have been issued.
Legal Considerations: Left-turn collisions between vehicles and motorcycles frequently result in fatal injuries to the rider. Drivers making left turns must yield to oncoming traffic, including motorcyclists, before completing their turns. When a driver turns left into the path of an approaching motorcycle, the driver typically bears liability for the resulting crash.
Motorcyclists traveling straight through an intersection have the right-of-way over vehicles turning left across their path. Drivers who fail to see approaching motorcycles or misjudge their speed violate this duty and cause preventable collisions.
Even when a driver is not impaired and cooperates with investigators, they can still be held liable if their failure to yield caused the crash. California law requires drivers to ensure their path is clear before executing left turns at intersections.
Wrongful death claims in motorcycle-vehicle collisions seek compensation for funeral expenses, the victim’s pain and suffering before death, lost future income, and the loss of companionship the family will endure. When a young person is killed, the financial and emotional losses extend over many decades.
Determining fault in left-turn crashes requires examination of witness statements, intersection layout, traffic signals, and the relative positions and speeds of both vehicles before impact.
Our sympathies to the family and friends of Farouk Fatouh as they mourn this loss.
