Evelyn Ryals Green, 88, Killed After ATV Is Struck by Tractor-Trailer on Alabama 41

CONECUH COUNTY, AL (October 20, 2025) — Authorities have identified 88-year-old Evelyn Ryals Green of Liberty as the woman who died Monday afternoon when her ATV was struck by a commercial tractor-trailer at an oilfield work site in Conecuh County.

Accident Details: The crash occurred around 4:57 p.m. on Monday along Alabama Highway 41, approximately four miles south of Repton. Officers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) said Green was driving a Polaris Sportsman ATV when a Mack Pinnacle tractor-trailer, driven by 30-year-old Aaron Lee Rose of Florida, struck her vehicle.

The impact ejected Green from the ATV, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Troopers confirmed that she was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Investigators noted the crash took place at an oilfield work site on East Vera Avenue, not at a commercial business, and the trailer struck her while the site was in operation. The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. The highway was closed for a time during emergency response and scene documentation.

Investigation: The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is leading the probe with assistance from ALEA’s highway patrol division. The inquiry will review whether work-site traffic controls and heavy-vehicle operating procedures were followed. Investigators will also examine roadway conditions, visibility, and whether the presence of industrial traffic at the location posed added risk.

No citations have yet been released. The accident report will be forwarded to the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) because it occurred at an industrial work site, indicating a separate review of workplace safety standards may proceed.

Legal Considerations: When a person operating an off-road vehicle such as an ATV is fatally injured in a collision with a commercial truck or trailer, investigations often span both traffic and workplace safety domains. Authorities may review compliance with state transport rules, trucking regulations, and industrial site protocols.

Family members of the victim may explore claims through workers’ compensation if death occurred during employment, and wrongful-death or product-liability claims may follow if perimeter vehicle traffic contributed to the event. Equipment design, operator training, and site safety records are relevant in determining accountability.

Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of Evelyn Ryals Green. May they find strength and support from their community in this moment of profound loss.
