David Greeson muere en un accidente de semirremolque cerca del aeropuerto Coles County Memorial

COLES COUNTY, IL (July 11, 2025) – An 84-year-old man from Neoga, identified as David Greeson, was killed Thursday evening in a crash involving a semi-truck and a passenger car near the Coles County Memorial Airport, according to Coles County Coroner Ed Schniers.

Accident Details: The crash occurred at approximately 5:43 p.m. east of Lerna Road in Coles County. Authorities say Greeson was driving a passenger car when it collided with a semi-truck. He was the only person in his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Coles County Sheriff’s Office reported that eastbound lanes were closed from Lerna Road to the entrance of Sarah Bush Lincoln Hospital in Mattoon. The Illinois State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit assisted with the investigation, resulting in a prolonged closure of the roadway. Lanes reopened late Thursday night into early Friday morning.

Further details about the cause of the crash have not yet been released.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The Coles County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police are investigating the incident. In collisions involving semi-trucks, authorities typically review factors such as driver attentiveness, right of way, speed, and the conditions of both vehicles. Accident reconstruction units help determine the sequence of events and identify contributing factors.

Families affected by fatal truck accidents may have the option to pursue legal claims for wrongful death, medical expenses, and other related damages, depending on the findings of the investigation.

We extend our condolences to the family and loved ones of David Greeson during this difficult time.
