George Ramos, 67, Identified in Unsolved Hit-and-Run Bicycle Crash Near Petaluma

Petaluma, California (November 22, 2025) — Authorities have identified the bicyclist who was killed in an unsolved hit-and-run crash near Petaluma last month, a case that remains under active investigation as family members seek answers. The victim was George Ramos, 67, of San Rafael, according to the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office.

Incident Details: Ramos was found unresponsive by a passerby shortly after 9:30 a.m. on November 22 along Rainsville Road near Stony Point Road. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Ramos had already succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators believe the collision likely occurred overnight or in the early morning hours, well before Ramos was discovered. Authorities noted that foggy conditions may have been present at the time, which could have reduced visibility along the rural roadway.

The driver involved in the collision fled the scene and has not been identified. No description of the suspect vehicle has been released.

Investigation: The California Highway Patrol is continuing its investigation into the fatal hit-and-run. In cases where a victim is discovered hours after a collision, investigators face additional challenges in reconstructing events. Troopers are analyzing injury patterns, bicycle damage, debris fields, and roadway markings to determine the direction of travel and point of impact.

Investigators will also evaluate environmental conditions, including lighting and fog density, to assess how visibility may have affected the driver’s ability to see a bicyclist on the roadway. CHP may canvass nearby homes and businesses for surveillance footage, license plate reader data, or witnesses who traveled through the area during the overnight hours.

Because the crash went unreported for several hours, investigators are urging anyone who drove through the area or noticed vehicle damage consistent with a collision to come forward.

Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run crashes involving bicyclists are particularly devastating because fleeing the scene denies victims immediate medical assistance that could mean the difference between life and death. California law requires drivers involved in a collision to stop, render aid, and notify authorities. Failing to do so carries serious criminal penalties and demonstrates a disregard for human life.

Beyond the criminal investigation, George’s loved ones may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim once the responsible party is identified. Such claims can seek compensation for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and the emotional toll of losing a loved one in a preventable crash. While no civil case can undo this loss, accountability through both the criminal and civil justice systems can help provide answers and reinforce the responsibility all drivers share to protect vulnerable road users.

Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact the California Highway Patrol’s Santa Rosa office.

I extend my deepest condolences to the Ramos family and friends during this difficult time.
