Crystal Barrera Identified as Victim in Fatal Fresno Collision

FRESNO, CA (November 11, 2025) — A 30-year-old woman died Sunday morning in a two-vehicle crash in Central Fresno. The victim was identified as Crystal Barrera.

Accident Details: Fresno Police responded around 1:45 a.m. Sunday to a fatal collision at Cedar and McKinley avenues. Investigators said a Honda was speeding north on Cedar when it approached the intersection and rear-ended a Chevy Impala.

The impact pushed the Chevy through the intersection and into the southbound lanes of Cedar. Barrera was a passenger in the Chevy and was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the Chevy had serious injuries and was transported to Community Regional Medical Center.

The driver of the Honda was also taken to Community Regional Medical Center with moderate injuries and was arrested for driving under the influence.

Investigation: The Fresno Police Department continues to investigate the collision. Investigators determined that the Honda was speeding when it struck the rear of the Chevy Impala at the intersection.

Authorities arrested the driver of the Honda on suspicion of driving under the influence. The collision remains under investigation as officers work to determine all contributing factors.

Legal Considerations: DUI-related collisions that result in death can lead to felony charges including gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated. When a speeding driver under the influence rear-ends another vehicle with enough force to push it through an intersection, the severity of the impact demonstrates the dangers of impaired and reckless driving.

Passengers who die in crashes caused by drunk drivers are among the most tragic victims, as they had no control over the situation that cost them their lives. Families of passengers killed in DUI crashes can file wrongful death claims against the at-fault driver to recover compensation for funeral costs, medical expenses, and the loss of their loved one’s companionship and support.

In cases where the drunk driver also caused injuries to other occupants in the victim’s vehicle, multiple claims may arise from a single collision. Criminal charges against the impaired driver proceed separately from civil claims, allowing families to seek both justice and financial recovery.

Our heartfelt sympathies are with the family and friends of Crystal Barrera as they grieve this senseless loss.
