Corry Webb, 34, Seriously Injured; Two Unidentified Victims Killed in Placerville Head-On Crash

Placerville, California  (February 16, 2026) — Two people were killed, and a third person suffered significant injuries, on Monday evening in a fiery head-on collision on Highway 49 in Placerville, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The two deceased victims were occupants of a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck. Authorities have not yet released their identities pending identification and notification of next of kin.

The injured driver was identified as Corry Webb, 34, of El Dorado. Webb was transported to Marshall Medical Center with major injuries.

The crash occurred on State Route 49 north of Dolomite Drive. Initial reports placed the call at approximately 5:45 p.m., though CHP later clarified that officers responded around 5:07 p.m.

Incident Details: According to CHP, the collision involved a Ford Edge and a Chevrolet S10 pickup truck that collided head-on. When first responders arrived, they found one of the vehicles engulfed in flames.

Two occupants inside the Chevrolet S10 sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup reportedly caught fire after impact, further compounding the severity of the crash.

Webb, who was driving the Ford Edge, survived the collision but suffered significant injuries. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Authorities have not released further details about his current condition.

Investigation: The California Highway Patrol is leading the ongoing investigation into the cause of the crash. In head-on collisions, investigators focus heavily on lane positioning and the sequence of vehicle movement before impact. Determining which vehicle crossed into opposing traffic will be central to the findings.

Crash reconstruction teams will likely analyze skid marks, pavement gouges, and debris patterns to establish the point of impact. Vehicle event data recorders, if available, may provide insight into speed, braking, and steering inputs in the seconds leading up to the collision.

Because one vehicle caught fire, investigators may also examine whether fuel system rupture or post-impact ignition contributed to the fatalities. Fire patterns can sometimes help determine timing, whether occupants survived the initial impact or succumbed due to thermal injuries following the crash.

Authorities have not yet stated whether drugs, alcohol, weather conditions, or mechanical failure are suspected factors. The cause of the collision remains under active investigation.

Legal Considerations: Head-on crashes are among the most catastrophic types of roadway collisions due to the direct transfer of force between vehicles traveling in opposite directions. Liability often hinges on whether a driver failed to maintain their lane, attempted an unsafe pass, or lost control of their vehicle.

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, the surviving family members of the deceased victims may have grounds to pursue wrongful death claims. These claims seek financial compensation for the losses suffered, including funeral and burial expenses, loss of the deceased’s financial support and services, and emotional anguish and loss of companionship.

Webb may also consider pursuing a personal injury claim to recover damages for his extensive medical expenses, both current and future, lost wages from time missed at work, pain and suffering, and other related non-economic damages resulting directly from the crash.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the families who lost loved ones in this accident. I also wish Corry Webb a full and swift recovery while the authorities continue their investigation.
