Incident Details: On April 14, 2025, 42-year-old Chiquita Rogers of Port Allen was killed in a three-vehicle crash on LA 37 near Sandy Creek Community Road in East Baton Rouge Parish. Rogers was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt northbound and had stopped to make a left turn when she was rear-ended by a 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The impact pushed her vehicle into the southbound lane, where it was struck on the side by a 2020 Mack tractor-trailer. Rogers, who was unrestrained, suffered serious injuries and later died at a local hospital. The two truck drivers were properly restrained and uninjured.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Louisiana State Police are continuing to investigate the crash. Toxicology samples were collected as part of the investigation. Authorities emphasized the importance of safe driving habits, including using seatbelts and avoiding distractions, impairment, and fatigue to help prevent such tragedies.
