Chesapeake I-64 Dump Truck Crash Injures Multiple Drivers; Operator Charged

Chesapeake, VA (August 14, 2025) –  A serious crash involving a dump truck on I-64 eastbound near Greenbrier Parkway left multiple people injured and caused significant traffic delays.

Accident Details: Authorities report that just before 8 a.m., a Mack dump truck operated by Charkeema Q. Hicks was traveling eastbound when traffic came to a sudden standstill. Hicks was unable to stop. He attempted to swerve right, but the truck struck four vehicles before running off the roadway. The truck then hit a guardrail, overturned, and spilled its load across the interstate.

Several individuals suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Hicks has since been charged with reckless driving and failure to maintain proper control of a vehicle.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: This accident raises essential questions about liability and accountability. From a legal perspective, several areas, including speed, driver fatigue, and vehicle maintenance, require further investigation.

Victims of this crash may be entitled to bring personal injury claims to recover damages for medical bills, lost income, pain and suffering, and other losses.

My thoughts are with the injured drivers and their families following this accident. I hope for a full and speedy recovery for everyone involved.
