Dana Point, CA (May 10, 2025) — A father from Dana Point is in critical condition following a hit-and-run crash that occurred while he was preparing for a family beach outing. The suspect, reportedly taken into custody after fleeing the scene, has not yet been publicly identified by police.
Incident Details: Charlos Bentley was outside his vehicle around 10 p.m. Saturday night, packing up for a family trip, when a sedan sideswiped his truck and struck him. The driver then fled without stopping. Emergency responders transported Bentley to the hospital, where he remains in serious condition. According to family members, a recent MRI has shown signs of hope, though Bentley faces a long and uncertain road to recovery.
Loved ones and neighbors described Bentley as a devoted family man and shared that fundraising efforts are already underway to help ease the burden on his family. The Dana Point community gathered Wednesday night to vigil in Bentley’s honor.
