Incident Details: At approximately 1:38 a.m. on May 31, California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers responded to a distress call regarding a pedestrian found on the right shoulder of northbound Highway 99, just north of Lerdo Highway. Upon arrival, they discovered Cruz critically injured. Initial reports indicate that Cruz was walking north in the northbound lanes of Highway 99 when he was struck by a vehicle. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene. The driver involved did not stop and has yet to be identified.
