SACRAMENTO, CA (October 20, 2025) — A 46-year-old man identified as Bee Lao died Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle along Del Paso Boulevard in Sacramento. The crash has left his family and community mourning the loss of a devoted father and husband.
Accident Details: According to the Sacramento Police Department, officers responded just before 6:30 p.m. to the area of Del Paso Boulevard and Marysville Boulevard after receiving reports of a pedestrian down in the roadway. Lao was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
Police initially believed two vehicles had struck the pedestrian, with one leaving the area. However, further investigation determined that only one vehicle was involved and that the driver had remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Authorities said impairment did not appear to be a factor.
The area was temporarily closed to traffic as police conducted on-site measurements and interviewed witnesses. The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office later confirmed Lao’s identity.
Lao’s wife, Stella Xiong, shared on a GoFundMe page that her husband leaves behind five children — four daughters between the ages of 5 and 14 and a 2-year-old son. She described Lao as “a loving person who was always welcoming to everyone.”
Investigation: Sacramento police continue to investigate the cause of the crash, including how Lao entered the roadway and whether lighting or visibility conditions played a role. Detectives are reviewing nearby surveillance footage and have asked anyone with information to contact the department.
Authorities have not released additional details about the vehicle involved, but said the driver cooperated fully with officers. Traffic investigators are expected to prepare a final report outlining their findings once evidence review is complete.
Legal Considerations: Pedestrian fatalities in urban areas like Del Paso Boulevard frequently raise concerns about visibility, crosswalk placement, and driver awareness. Investigations often consider whether roadway lighting or signal timing gave pedestrians enough protection while crossing.
For families facing such tragedies, questions about financial recovery and accountability can feel overwhelming. Insurance claims, medical costs, and funeral expenses may be addressed through available coverage, and findings from the police investigation can help determine liability.
Our thoughts go out to the family and friends of Bee Lao during this painful time. May they find comfort and support from their community.
