Queen Anne’s County, MD (May 27, 2025) – Authorities are seeking the driver of a tractor trailer believed to have fled the scene of a serious crash involving four vehicles on westbound U.S. Route 50 near the Chesapeake Bay Bridge.
Accident Details: The Maryland Transportation Authority Police responded to the crash shortly after 6:40 p.m. on Tuesday. When they arrived at the scene, officers found three damaged vehicles on westbound Route 50, just before the Bay Bridge. The driver of a black Scion was seriously injured and required emergency airlift to a nearby hospital.
Investigators believe a tractor trailer struck the Scion, contributing to the crash, before continuing west across the Bay Bridge without stopping. The truck has not yet been located, and authorities are working to identify the vehicle and its driver.
Legal Considerations: Leaving the scene of an injury crash is a serious offense under Maryland law. Commercial truck drivers and their companies may face civil liability if evidence shows that the trailer caused or contributed to the crash and failed to stop.
