ROSEMEAD, CA (October 20, 2025) — Authorities identified 30-year-old Aric Verador Mesina as the pedestrian who was struck and killed early Sunday morning on the eastbound San Bernardino (10) Freeway in Rosemead. The collision prompted lane closures and an extended investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 5:55 a.m. on the eastbound lanes of the 10 Freeway, just west of Rosemead Boulevard, according to CHP. Reports indicate that Mesina was struck by one or more vehicles while on the roadway. It remains unclear why he was on the freeway at that time or how the sequence of impacts occurred.
Emergency personnel responded quickly but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed his identity later that day. Officials have not yet released information regarding the involved vehicles or drivers.
Traffic on the eastbound side of the freeway was heavily delayed through the morning as investigators worked to document the scene. Crews reopened the roadway at approximately 9:11 a.m. once debris and evidence had been cleared.
Investigation: The California Highway Patrol is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officers are reviewing witness statements, surveillance footage from nearby traffic cameras, and physical evidence from the roadway to understand how the pedestrian came to be in the traffic lanes.
Authorities have not released details about whether the involved drivers stopped after the collision or if impairment or lighting conditions may have played a role. Pedestrian crashes on freeways are relatively uncommon but tend to be severe because of high speeds and limited visibility. CHP investigators will use their findings to determine whether any criminal or traffic violations occurred.
Legal Considerations: Fatal pedestrian collisions on high-speed roadways can raise questions about roadway safety, driver attentiveness, and the circumstances that placed the person on the freeway.
When a person is struck on a freeway, investigators must determine whether any driver failed to react appropriately or was operating a vehicle in an unsafe way. California law provides a process for relatives to seek accountability and support if negligence is found to have contributed.
Results from the CHP’s review will help establish how the crash occurred and whether anyone may be held responsible. Families affected by such losses often rely on those findings to understand the circumstances and find a measure of closure amid their grief.
We extend sincere condolences to the loved ones of Aric Verador Mesina during this heartbreaking time.
