Pedestrian Fatality in Modesto Claims Life of Miguel Angel Vazquez

Modesto, CA (October 27, 2024) – A tragic accident on Sunday, October 27, 2024, took the life of 56-year-old Miguel Angel Vazquez, who was struck by a sedan while crossing Paradise Road at Leon Avenue in Modesto.

Accident Details: The accident was reported at 2:36 a.m., and witnesses indicated that the vehicle, a black sedan, left the scene heading westbound after the collision. Modesto Police are continuing their investigation and ask anyone with information to contact them.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination.

Hit-and-Run: The driver’s decision to leave the scene in a hit-and-run case carries serious implications and reflects significant negligence. In California, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury or death is a criminal offense, as it obstructs timely medical aid and critical investigations into the accident’s causes. Fleeing the scene deprives victims of immediate assistance, which could be life-saving, and prevents law enforcement from gathering crucial evidence. There can also be civil consequences.

Civil Claim: Vazquez’s family may consider a wrongful death claim as they seek justice and accountability. Such claims aim to hold the responsible driver accountable for their actions. In California, wrongful death lawsuits allow eligible family members to pursue compensation for both financial and emotional damages, including funeral expenses and loss of companionship.

I extend my heartfelt condolences to Vazquez’s family and friends. My sincerest thoughts are with them during this challenging time.
