Fatal Pedestrian Accident in Long Beach Kills Benjamen Golonsky

Long Beach, CA (June 14, 2024) – On the night of June 14, 2024, 39-year-old Benjamen Golonsky tragically lost his life after being struck by a vehicle in Long Beach.

Accident Details: The accident occurred around 10:40 p.m. at the intersection of Carson Street and Gundry Avenue, just east of Orange Avenue. Golonsky, a pedestrian, was struck by an eastbound vehicle traveling on Carson Street. Unfortunately, Golonsky died at the scene.

Investigation: The driver of the vehicle cooperated with the police. Police do not suspect that speeding, distracted driving, or driving under the influence contributed to the accident. However, they did find that Golonsky was crossing the intersection outside of the crosswalk at the time of the crash. The Long Beach Police Department requests that anyone with information about the accident call them at 562-570-7355. Alternatively, they can contact Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477 or www.lacrimestoppers.org.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I believe that many aspects of this case warrant further examination. In pedestrian accidents, multiple parties can bear responsibility. Golonsky’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim against a party whose negligence caused or contributed to the accident.

Driver’s Conduct and Responsibility: Although the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, understanding their actions leading up to the accident is crucial. Even if speed, distracted driving, or impairment are not suspected factors, the driver’s awareness and compliance with other traffic laws must be evaluated.

Accident Scene: Golonsky was crossing Carson Street outside of a designated crosswalk when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle. Analyzing the accident scene can provide insights into visibility issues and potential road hazards that may have contributed to the accident. Was the intersection well-lit? Were there any signs or signals that could have prevented the accident? It is essential to review any available surveillance footage and gather eyewitness accounts to reconstruct the moments leading up to the collision.

My deepest condolences go out to Benjamen Golonsky’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
