East Hemet, CA (March 19, 2025) – Ana De Anda, 81, was fatally struck by a vehicle Wednesday morning while walking on Stanford Street, just south of Johnston Avenue.
Incident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), the crash occurred at 7 a.m. when De Anda was walking in the traffic lanes for unknown reasons. A 38-year-old Hemet man driving a Chrysler 300 hit her while traveling at an unconfirmed speed. The driver immediately stopped and was detained for questioning but was not arrested.
Emergency responders from the Riverside County Fire Department arrived within minutes and pronounced De Anda dead at the scene. Authorities stated that drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the collision.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Fatal pedestrian crashes often raise concerns about roadway safety, driver attentiveness, and pedestrian behavior. Investigators will assess whether lighting, road conditions, or driver negligence contributed to the collision. If liability is found, De Anda’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for their loss.
My deepest condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Ana De Anda.
