Amador County, CA (October 13, 2025) – One person was killed Monday morning in a head-on collision on Highway 88 in Amador County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Accident Details: CHP officials said the crash occurred shortly after 8 a.m. near the community of Pine Grove. A Toyota Camry and a GMC pickup collided head-on, leaving both vehicles with major front-end damage. Emergency crews arrived to find one driver unresponsive; that person was pronounced dead at the scene. The other driver was transported to a local hospital with moderate injuries. The crash shut down Highway 88 in both directions for several hours as authorities conducted an investigation and cleared the wreckage.
Investigation: Preliminary findings indicate one of the vehicles crossed over the center line into oncoming traffic, but CHP is still working to determine why. Investigators are reviewing roadway evidence, skid marks, and any available surveillance footage to reconstruct the incident. No other passengers were involved, and weather conditions were reported to be clear at the time. The Amador County Coroner’s Office will release the victim’s identity after family notification.
