Alexander Leroux Dies After Hit-and-Run Driver Flees on India Street

SAN DIEGO, CA (December 4, 2025) — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash over the weekend in San Diego. The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as 57-year-old Alexander Leroux.

Accident Details: According to police and the medical examiner’s office, Leroux was crossing the road mid-block shortly before midnight Saturday in the 3500 block of India Street when he was hit by a gray or silver sedan.

Leroux suffered multiple blunt force injuries and was transported to a hospital, where he died shortly after the crash.

Investigation: San Diego Police are investigating the hit-and-run crash. Authorities are searching for the driver of a gray or silver sedan who fled the scene after striking Leroux.

Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run drivers who kill pedestrians and flee the scene face felony charges carrying substantial prison sentences. California law requires all drivers to stop immediately after striking a pedestrian, render aid, and contact emergency services. Fleeing denies victims potentially life-saving medical care and shows complete disregard for human life.

Pedestrians crossing mid-block face increased danger compared to those using marked crosswalks. However, drivers still have a duty to maintain proper lookout and avoid striking pedestrians wherever they encounter them. The late-night timing raises questions about visibility, lighting conditions, and whether the driver was traveling at a safe speed for the area.

When a driver flees after a fatal crash, families face additional trauma beyond the loss itself. The driver’s decision to abandon Leroux compounds the tragedy and demonstrates consciousness of guilt. Families deserve to know who was responsible and why the collision occurred.

Wrongful death claims in hit-and-run cases seek compensation for funeral expenses, the victim’s pain and suffering before death, lost income and support, and the devastating emotional loss. These claims can be pursued once the driver is identified and apprehended.

Until the fleeing driver is located, Leroux’s family may need to explore uninsured motorist coverage through their own insurance policies to address immediate financial needs. The search for the responsible party continues as investigators work to identify the gray or silver sedan and its driver.

We extend our sympathies to the family and friends of Alexander Leroux during this difficult time.
