Woodland, CA (March 16, 2024) – A heart-wrenching incident in Woodland has left a family grieving the loss of their 2-year-old daughter, Ailahni Sanchez Martinez, who was fatally struck by a truck on Saturday afternoon. The tragic event unfolded as Ailahni’s parents, Rosa Martinez and Sandro Sanchez, were setting up their taco stand near the 300 block of West Street, close to a 76 gas station.
Incident Details: The accident occurred around 3:45 p.m., when a black Dodge truck, left running with a 3-year-old child inside, began moving backward toward Ailahni. Despite her father’s efforts to save her, she was struck. Ailahni was immediately taken to the hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Woodland Police Department, led by Sergeant Towle, responded to the scene and identified the vehicle involved. The driver of the truck was found nearby and is associated with the vehicle that struck Ailahni.
Family’s Grief and Call for Justice: Ailahni’s parents remember her as a joyful child who loved to dance and brought happiness to everyone around her. The family is now seeking justice for the loss of their daughter, emphasizing that the circumstances leading to the accident were preventable. While DUI is not suspected at this time, the investigation into the crash continues, with the family and community awaiting further details.
Legal Implications: This tragic incident may have significant legal implications, including potential charges against the driver or a wrongful death claim from Ailahni’s family. Additionally, the details from the incident, including the presence of a lone 3-year-old child in the truck, underscores the importance of accountability and the need for thorough investigations in such devastating cases.
My thoughts are with Ailahni’s family as they navigate through this unimaginably painful time. In the wake of this tragedy, the family has set up a GoFundMe page to help cover funeral expenses for Ailahni. Please provide some support if you can.
