San Francisco, CA (May 24, 2025) — A 5-year-old child was left with life-threatening injuries after being struck in a hit-and-run collision while riding a push bike alongside a guardian in San Francisco’s Richmond District, according to city police.
Incident Details: The crash occurred at approximately 6:20 p.m. near the intersection of 31st Avenue and Clement Street. Police say the child was riding a push bike next to a woman, presumably a parent or guardian, when both were hit by a vehicle. The driver fled the scene without rendering aid. The child was transported to a nearby hospital and later reported to be in critical condition.
Authorities identified the suspect as 35-year-old Jonathan Tyler Lam, who was arrested two days later in Daly City. Lam has been booked into the San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Although the driver has been identified, the investigation may still examine factors such as vehicle speed, driver impairment, and whether any traffic controls were disregarded.
Pending the investigation findings, the child’s family may pursue a personal injury claim to cover medical expenses, long-term care, and compensation for emotional trauma suffered by the child and their family.
My thoughts are with the young child and their family as they recover.
