Big Arm, MT (May 17, 2025) – A 22-year-old woman from Elmo died early Saturday morning following a fiery two-vehicle crash involving a semi truck hauling jet fuel on U.S. Highway 93 in Lake County.
Incident Details: The Montana Highway Patrol responded to the scene near mile marker 75 at around 2:30 a.m. Authorities say the woman was driving a Jeep Wrangler northbound when she crossed into the opposite lane and collided head-on with the southbound semi truck. Both vehicles were engulfed in flames upon the arrival of emergency crews. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, while the semi driver — a 50-year-old man from Kalispell — sustained injuries. Highway 93 was closed for several hours for investigation and cleanup due to the hazardous materials involved.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, including the possibility of driver impairment or distraction. The presence of jet fuel added complexity to the emergency response and may require further inquiry into transport safety protocols. The identity of the victim has not yet been publicly released.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s loved ones during this tragic time.
