Dwayne Evers Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving Motorcycle, Pickup Truck, and Amazon Delivery Van in Sedgwick County, KS

Wichita, KS (November 22, 2025) – Dwayne Evers, 63, died at the scene of a multi-vehicle crash involving a motorcycle, a pickup truck, and an Amazon delivery van.

Accident Details: The collision occurred around 5:30 p.m. at 135th Street West and 63rd Street South, between K-42 and Clearwater. Preliminary findings indicate that the motorcycle, pickup truck, and Amazon delivery van were traveling south on 135th Street. As the three vehicles were driving, the Amazon van’s driver took a U-turn at 63rd Street South in front of the pickup truck and motorcycle, triggering a chain reaction crash.

Investigators do not suspect that speed or impairment played a role in the collision. A Sedgwick County Sheriff noted that the Amazon delivery truck didn’t yield to traffic behind, so the pickup truck collided with the delivery van, and a motorcycle crashed into the pickup truck.

Evers died at the scene. His passenger, a 58-year-old woman, incurred critical injuries and was hospitalized. The driver of the pickup truck, a 70-year-old man, had non-life-threatening injuries. The 25-year-old Amazon delivery van driver was not hurt.

Investigation: The Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office indicated that after they complete the accident reconstruction, they will present the case to the District Attorney’s Office for review. As part of the Sheriff’s investigation into the crash, authorities will:

  • Analyze any available dashcam or CCTV footage to determine vehicle speed, lane position, braking behavior, and the timing of events leading up to the collision.
  • Document physical evidence at the scene, such as skid marks, points of impact, and where the vehicles stopped. This evidence will help demonstrate how the delivery van struck the pickup and how the motorcycle subsequently crashed into it.
  • Investigate driver behavior by assessing factors like speed, reaction time, use of turn signals, familiarity with driving in that location, or improper use of substances to determine the involvement of human error.
  • Examine the mechanical condition of the Amazon delivery van.
  • Review environmental factors, such as sightlines, roadway grade, and traffic flow, to assess whether conditions may have limited the driver’s ability to see the other vehicles next to him.
  • Interview drivers and witnesses to gather firsthand accounts of the vehicles’ movements and reactions.

Accident reconstruction is often utilized in crashes involving commercial vehicles. By analyzing this information, investigators can gain a better understanding of how the sequence unfolded and whether negligent actions contributed to the fatal outcome.

Legal Considerations: Commercial truck drivers are held to a higher standard of care than ordinary motorists. They are expected to operate their vehicles safely, follow all traffic laws, and comply with federal and state commercial truck regulations. Any deviation from these safe driving requirements, like a sudden U-turn across lanes of travel without yielding to other cars, may constitute negligence.

Investigators will also consider whether Amazon properly maintained the delivery truck and whether the driver had the training and experience necessary to operate the van. If poor maintenance or inadequate training are identified, the company may share responsibility.

If evidence shows that the Amazon delivery van driver failed to follow traffic rules, wasn’t paying attention, or didn’t have adequate training to be driving the van, such conduct may be deemed negligent. In that case, the Evers’ family could have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim, which may allow recovery for funeral expenses, loss of companionship, and the profound emotional harm caused by the sudden loss of a loved one.

The passenger and pickup truck driver who sustained injuries may also be able to pursue a claim for personal injury.

My heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones of Dwayne Evers.
