Dunn Center, ND (September 30, 2025) – Two semi-truck drivers were seriously injured Tuesday morning when one truck crossed the centerline on Highway 200 east of Dunn Center and hit an oncoming rig head-on, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
Accident Details: Officials said a 63-year-old Fargo driver was eastbound when a westbound truck driven by a 29-year-old man from Heidelberg, Mississippi, crossed into the opposite lane and collided with him. Both drivers sustained serious injuries. The Mississippi driver was flown to Trinity Hospital in Minot; the Fargo driver was flown to Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck. Multiple agencies—including the Dunn County Sheriff’s Office, Killdeer Ambulance and Fire, and Sanford AirMed—responded and secured the two-truck scene as troopers documented debris patterns and vehicle rest positions across the rural highway.
Investigation: The Highway Patrol reported that the Mississippi truck driver was cited for driving under suspension, reckless endangerment, and failure to maintain lane. Investigators are continuing to evaluate speed, lane position, and braking evidence, as well as any available ECM data. As is standard in commercial collisions, carrier compliance records, hours-of-service logs, and pre-trip/post-trip inspection histories may be reviewed to identify additional contributing factors.
Legal Considerations: When a semi crosses the centerline and causes a head-on collision, liability can be clear against the at-fault driver, with potential exposure for the motor carrier depending on supervision, training, or maintenance practices. Injured drivers may seek compensation for medical care, wage loss, and other damages. Preservation of ECM downloads, photographs, and witness accounts is essential, and independent reconstruction can help clarify timing and visibility along ND-200’s rolling terrain.
I wish both injured truck drivers a full and swift recovery following this head-on truck crash near Dunn Center.
