DUI Suspect Arrested After Woman Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Van Nuys

Van Nuys, CA (July 11, 2025) – A suspected DUI driver was arrested after a two-vehicle crash in Van Nuys early Friday morning that left a woman dead, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Authorities say the collision occurred in a residential area and involved high speeds and possible intoxication.

Accident Details: The fatal crash happened around 2:00 a.m. on July 11 near the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Sepulveda Boulevard. According to LAPD investigators, a male driver behind the wheel of a white sedan was allegedly speeding when he collided with a black vehicle. The impact sent the black car careening into a light pole and caused it to split in half. A female passenger inside that car was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the black car was injured and transported to a nearby hospital. The suspected DUI driver remained at the scene and was arrested. Officials have not yet released the names of those involved, but the woman killed was described as being in her early 30s.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: LAPD believes alcohol or drugs were a factor in the crash and confirmed that the male driver of the white car was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, witness statements, and physical evidence to build their case.

Under California law, DUI collisions resulting in death may lead to charges such as gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated (Penal Code §191.5), which carry lengthy prison sentences. In addition to criminal charges, civil wrongful death claims may be filed by the victim’s family against the at-fault driver. Damages may include funeral expenses, loss of financial support, and emotional suffering.

The severity of this crash also raises issues of reckless driving, as speed was cited as a contributing factor. Prosecutors may consider additional enhancements if the evidence shows the driver demonstrated willful disregard for safety. Meanwhile, the injured survivor may also have grounds to pursue a personal injury lawsuit for medical costs, lost income, and pain and suffering.

I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of the woman who tragically lost her life in this senseless and avoidable crash.
