Anaheim, CA (October 8, 2024) – A tragic accident in Anaheim claimed the life of 49-year-old Jessica Ferrino on Tuesday evening.
Accident Details and Ongoing Investigation: The crash occurred around 6:30 p.m. in a residential area near the Anaheim Coves Trail and the Santa Ana River. Home surveillance footage captured the devastating moment when a silver Mercedes-Benz, driven by 33-year-old Raymundo Rangel of Santa Ana, failed to navigate a sharp 90-degree left turn onto Rio Vista Street. The car fatally struck Ferrino as she walked near Wagner Avenue and Rio Vista Street.
Police believe Rangel was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Both Rangel and a passenger were hospitalized. Initially, no additional injuries were reported until a man notified authorities that his wife, Jessica Ferrino, had not returned from her walk along the greenbelt. Her body was later discovered in a nearby brush.
Raymundo Rangel is now facing several charges, including felony DUI and vehicular manslaughter.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that the investigation will focus on the following factors:
- DUI-related Negligence: The most significant issue here is that Raymundo Rangel was reportedly under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. In addition to being a serious criminal offense, driving under the influence breaches a driver’s duty to keep others safe, establishing possible grounds for civil liability.
- Dangerous Roadway Design: Residents in the area have expressed concerns about the dangerous curve where the accident occurred. If the road’s design or signage fails to provide adequate warning to drivers, this could implicate the responsible governmental entity
Wrongful Death: If negligence is found, Jessica Ferrino’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit. This lawsuit could seek compensation for funeral expenses, emotional suffering, and other financial losses caused by the tragic accident.
I extend my deepest sympathies to Jessica Ferrino’s family and loved ones.
