Driver Killed After Crashing Into 18-Wheeler on US-59 Feeder Road at SH-99 in Sugar Land

Sugar Land, TX (March 21, 2025) – A driver was killed early Friday morning after crashing into an 18-wheeler that was not fully pulled over on the southbound feeder road of US-59 at SH-99 Lanier Parkway, according to the City of Sugar Land.

Incident Details: The crash occurred shortly after 6 a.m. and resulted in the closure of the southbound feeder road and the Williams Way exit for several hours. Authorities reported that the 18-wheeler was partially in the roadway when the driver of a vehicle collided with it. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The roadway was reopened just before noon.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators will assess whether the truck driver’s failure to fully pull off the roadway constituted negligence. Truck positioning, visibility, lighting conditions, and signage will likely be examined. If it is determined that the parked 18-wheeler created an unreasonable hazard, the victim’s family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim to seek compensation for funeral expenses and other damages.

My condolences go out to the victim’s family and loved ones.
