Orange, TX (March 20, 2025) – A fatal collision between a passenger vehicle and a semi-truck that occurred Thursday morning claimed the life of one individual.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 9:55 a.m. on State Highway 62 at Waterwood Drive. A Peterbilt semi-truck was traveling southbound on SH 62. At that time, a Buick Enclave pulled out from Waterwood Drive and was struck on the driver’s side by the semi. The driver of the Buick was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi-truck driver was uninjured. The identity of the deceased driver has not been released pending notification of next of kin. The crash remains under investigation.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators will work to determine whether the Buick Enclave or the semi-truck driver had the right of way. Was the Peterbilt semi-truck driver speeding or distracted? Did they fail to brake in time?
Authorities will analyze several key factors, including the following:
- Whether the Buick had a stop sign or yield requirement before entering SH 62;
- Whether the semi-truck driver had enough time and distance to avoid the crash; and
- Whether either vehicle’s speed or mechanical condition played a role.
The truck’s electronic control module (ECM)—often called a “black box”—can provide critical data, including speed, braking, and throttle input. Investigators will also review driver logs, which federal law requires, to determine if the trucker complied with hours-of-service regulations, helping rule out driver fatigue.
Depending on the outcome of the investigation, family members of the Buick driver may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.
I extend my condolences to the family and loved ones of the driver who lost their life in this crash.
