Sacramento, CA (May 18, 2024) – A devastating multi-vehicle crash, caused by a suspected drunk driver, resulted in the death of a man and injuries to several others on Saturday evening in Sacramento, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Incident Overview: The collision occurred at approximately 5:37 p.m. on Fulton Avenue near Marconi Avenue. Douglas Anderson, a 62-year-old resident of Granite Bay, was driving his Dodge pickup truck southbound on Fulton when his vehicle was rear-ended by a speeding Toyota SUV. The impact caused Anderson’s truck to veer off the road and crash. The Toyota, meanwhile, continued moving but subsequently collided with a Volkswagen SUV. Anderson was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in his truck was transported to the hospital with pain complaints. The driver of the Volkswagen, a woman in her 30s, sustained minor injuries and was hospitalized; her baby was also taken to the hospital as a precaution. The driver of the Toyota suffered minor lacerations and was taken to the hospital before being arrested on suspicion of DUI.
Legal Implications: This incident underscores the severe consequences of driving under the influence. The driver of the Toyota faces serious criminal charges as a result of this crash. However, the families of the victims may also pursue wrongful death and personal injury claims to seek compensation for medical expenses, funeral costs, and other associated damages.
My thoughts are with the family and friends of Douglas Anderson during this difficult time, and I wish a swift recovery to all those injured.
