Hemet, CA (June 28, 2025) – A 75-year-old bicyclist was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver Saturday evening in Hemet.
Accident Details: Police were dispatched after receiving reports of a pedestrian — later clarified as a bicyclist — struck at the intersection of Domenigoni Parkway and State Street around 5:30 pm. The victim, identified as Kenneth Lauer, was found lying in the roadway. Unfortunately, Lauer was killed.
Witnesses reported that the suspect vehicle fled immediately after impact. With this information, officers were able to identify the vehicle and attempt a traffic stop. The suspect refused to stop, initiating a three-minute pursuit before being apprehended.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities have stated that driving under the influence appears to be a factor in the crash. Investigators will likely review surveillance footage, conduct toxicology tests, and reconstruct the crash to determine exactly what happened.
Depending on the findings of the investigation, the family of Kenneth Lauer may have the right to pursue a wrongful death lawsuit.
