Cyclist Seriously Injured After Being Struck by Vehicle Near Moorpark

Moorpark, CA (March 12, 2025) – A 56-year-old cyclist sustained serious head injuries after being struck by a Nissan Altima early Wednesday morning on Tierra Rejada Road, just outside the city limits of Moorpark, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).

Incident Overview: The collision occurred shortly before 7 a.m. near the 15000 block of Tierra Rejada Road, east of the northbound Highway 23 offramp. CHP Officer Ryan Ayers reported that the driver of the Nissan Altima was traveling westbound and attempting to turn left into a golf driving range parking lot when the vehicle collided with the eastbound cyclist. The driver stated that he did not see the bicyclist before turning.

TThe cyclist was conscious but disoriented at the scene. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of head trauma. Authorities noted that it was still dark at the time of the crash, and the cyclist was not wearing a helmet or reflective clothing, nor was the bicycle equipped with lights.

The motorist remained at the scene, contacted emergency services, and cooperated fully with the investigation. CHP officials stated that drugs or alcohol are not suspected as contributing factors.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the collision, examining whether the driver failed to yield properly and how visibility and the cyclist’s lack of safety equipment may have contributed to the crash.

Determinations of fault will influence potential liability for the cyclist’s medical expenses, lost income, and recovery-related costs. Depending on the outcome of the investigation, a personal injury claim may be appropriate.

My thoughts are with the injured cyclist and his family as he begins his recovery.
