Bakersfield, CA (June 9, 2024) – On June 9, 2024, at approximately 3:36 p.m., 20-year-old Gregory Ricardo Calderon of Bakersfield was involved in a tragic accident while riding his bicycle near Chester Avenue and 11th Street.
Accident Details: Calderon was struck by a vehicle and transported to Kern Medical for treatment. He succumbed to his injuries on June 17, 2024.
Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that establishing negligence in this case will require a thorough investigation of the circumstances leading up to the collision. Was the driver paying proper attention to the road, or were they distracted? Were traffic conditions safe, or were there visibility or road design issues that may have contributed to the accident? Did the vehicle have a mechanical failure? If the driver was found to be speeding or ignoring traffic laws, they could be held liable for Calderon’s death.
Additionally, if the investigation reveals any safety issues with the intersection at Chester Avenue and 11th Street, the city or county could be held responsible for failing to maintain a safe roadway for cyclists and pedestrians.
If the investigation determines that someone’s negligence contributed to Gregory Calderon’s death, his family may have grounds for a wrongful death claim. In a wrongful death claim, surviving family members can seek compensation for their loss, including medical expenses, funeral costs, and emotional suffering.
Our deepest sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of Gregory Ricardo Calderon.
