Two Hospitalized After Semi-Truck Rollover in Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake, IL (September 24, 2025) – Two people were hospitalized Wednesday morning after a semi-truck rolled over on Route 176 in Crystal Lake, spilling gravel across the roadway. The crash trapped the truck driver in the cab and forced hours of road closures while emergency crews responded.

Accident Details: The rollover occurred near the intersection of Route 176 and Briarwood Road. Authorities said the semi-truck tipped onto its side, spilling its load of gravel onto the highway and nearby ditches. Firefighters worked to extricate the trapped driver, who was later transported to the hospital. A second person was also hospitalized with injuries described as non-life-threatening.

Emergency Response: Crystal Lake Fire Rescue units, along with McHenry County Sheriff’s deputies, responded to the scene. Heavy equipment was required to upright the semi and clear the gravel. Road closures remained in effect into the afternoon while crews completed cleanup and ensured the roadway was safe.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Investigators are looking into what caused the rollover, including whether speed, driver fatigue, or mechanical issues contributed. Semi-truck rollovers pose significant risks not only to truck operators but also to other motorists. Liability in these cases may extend to the driver, the trucking company, or equipment providers if negligence is identified.

Local officials have urged caution when traveling along Route 176, which handles a mix of commercial truck and commuter traffic.

I wish those injured a speedy and full recovery following this Crystal Lake semi-truck accident.
