Knox County, Kentucky (December 20, 2025) — Authorities have identified the man who died following a two-vehicle collision Saturday evening in the Gray community of Knox County as Crit Moses, 93, according to Kentucky State Police.
Incident Details: Kentucky State Police Post 10 responded to the crash at approximately 6:30 p.m. Saturday on U.S. 25E after receiving a call from Knox County 911 Dispatch. Troopers said the collision involved a Kenworth tractor-trailer and a Toyota Prius.
According to a preliminary investigation, the tractor-trailer crossed the southbound lane of travel and stopped in the median while attempting to merge into the northbound lane. At that time, the Toyota Prius, traveling southbound, collided with the driver’s side of the trailer, which was blocking the southbound lane.
Moses, the driver of the Prius, sustained critical injuries. Knox County EMS transported him and later airlifted him to the University of Kentucky Hospital. On December 21, authorities confirmed that Moses succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by the Fayette County Deputy Coroner.
No information has been released regarding injuries to the tractor-trailer driver.
Investigation: The crash remains under investigation by Kentucky State Police Detective Jake Middleton, with assistance from multiple responding agencies. In collisions involving large commercial vehicles obstructing travel lanes, investigators typically focus on the positioning and movement of the truck at the time of impact.
Detectives will examine whether the tractor-trailer’s maneuver complied with traffic laws and safe merging practices, including whether the southbound lane was fully blocked and for how long. Investigators are also expected to analyze vehicle damage, debris patterns, skid marks, and sight distances to determine whether the Prius driver had sufficient time or space to avoid the collision.
Additional factors such as lighting conditions, roadway design, visibility, and whether proper warning measures were taken during the truck’s attempted merge may also be evaluated as part of the reconstruction process.
Legal Considerations: Crashes involving tractor-trailers often result in severe consequences due to the size and weight of these commercial vehicles. When a large truck blocks an active travel lane, it creates a hazard for approaching motorists, particularly in low-light conditions.
If investigators determine that the tractor-trailer’s actions contributed to the crash, Moses’ family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.
