Cottonwood, CA (June 1, 2025) — A 34-year-old man riding an electric scooter was killed late Saturday night when he collided with a pickup truck at a Cottonwood intersection, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Incident Details: The fatal crash occurred around 10 p.m. at the intersection of Gas Point Road and Park Drive. Investigators say a man driving a Ford F-250 was heading westbound on Gas Point Road when he entered the intersection and struck the scooter traveling southbound on Park Drive.
Following the impact, the truck driver pulled to the side of the road and discovered the scooter rider had become trapped beneath the vehicle. He called 911 immediately, but paramedics were unable to revive the victim. The rider was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity is being withheld pending notification of his family.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP has not yet announced who had the right of way during the collision. Investigators will continue analyzing physical evidence and interviewing witnesses to determine what happened. They will also assess each vehicle’s speed, the intersection visibility, road lighting conditions, and whether either party disregarded traffic signs.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the scooter rider’s family could seek damages via a wrongful death suit. This type of claim helps meet the cost of the funeral, medical care, and loss of companionship.
My condolences go out to the loved ones of the man who lost his life.
