Suffolk, VA (March 4, 2025) – A 39-year-old Chesapeake man, Corey L. B. Knight, was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer on Interstate 664 South near College Drive.
Accident Details: The crash occurred around 1:15 a.m. Investigators say Knight had stopped his 2023 Volkswagen GTI on the shoulder, activated his hazard lights, and exited the vehicle when a tractor-trailer veered off the roadway, striking both him and his car.
Knight died on impact, and authorities have confirmed that drugs, alcohol, and speed were not factors in the collision. The Commonwealth Attorney of Suffolk will review the case to determine whether charges will be filed.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Drivers must maintain their lane of travel and remain attentive to the road ahead. Drifting onto the shoulder—especially on high-speed interstates—poses an extreme danger to stranded motorists, emergency responders, and pedestrians. Investigators will assess why the tractor-trailer veered off the road and look for driver distraction or fatigue, mechanical failure, and roadway obstructions.
If investigators determine that negligence contributed to the crash, Knight’s family may have grounds to pursue a wrongful death claim.
I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Corey L. B. Knight.
