Collision with Semi-Truck Kills Theodore Joseph Zeff in Sacramento County

Sacramento County, CA (February 13, 2025) – Theodore Joseph Zeff, 75, tragically died in a collision with a semi-truck on Interstate 5 in the early morning.

Accident Details: According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), around 5 a.m., a big rig was traveling south on I-5. The driver lost control and crashed into a guard rail. The truck stopped in the center divide, with its back occupying the left-most lane. About five minutes after the semi-truck crash, Zeff was driving in his sedan in the left-most lane when he collided with the semi-truck. Unfortunately, Zeff died at the scene.

Investigation: As a personal injury attorney, I find that investigators will examine various factors to identify the cause of the crash.

  • Driver Behavior: Preliminary investigations indicate that the weather was windy and the roads slippery at the time of the accident. Investigators should determine if the truck’s speed was adjusted for these conditions. The truck’s electronic data recorder should be studied to determine the speed, braking pressure, and steering wheel activity at the time of the crash. The crash also raises questions about distraction and fatigue.
  • Road Safety: After the semi-truck crashed, investigators should determine whether appropriate emergency procedures were taken. Were the emergency lights on to alert other drivers of the semi-truck’s presence on the road?

If someone is killed in a truck crash due to another’s negligence, the victim’s family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim.

I extend my sincerest condolences to Theodore Joseph Zeff’s family and loved ones. I hope his family finds strength and support during this difficult time.
