Collision in West Oakland Kills Maurice Senegal

West Oakland, CA (January 26, 2025) – A tragic collision in West Oakland on Sunday morning claimed the life of 47-year-old Maurice Senegal, a San Francisco resident.

Accident Details: According to authorities, the crash occurred at the intersection of Linden Street and West Grand Avenue. Senegal’s Volvo sedan allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign, causing him to collide with an SUV driven by a man from Oakwood. Senegal was transported to a hospital but later was pronounced dead.  The SUV driver remained at the scene and was not harmed. Police have not determined if drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. The investigation is ongoing.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that several aspects of this case warrant further examination. While initial reports suggest Senegal may have run a stop sign, a full investigation is necessary to determine all contributing factors. Authorities will examine whether road conditions, signage visibility, the SUV driver’s behavior, or mechanical issues played a role.

If another party is found negligent, Senegal’s family may be able to file a wrongful death claim and recover compensation for their loss. Even if Senegal is found partially responsible for the accident, his family may still be able to recover reduced compensation based on California’s comparative negligence laws as long as another party is also responsible.

I extend my deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Maurice Senegal during this painful time.
