Man Killed in Hit-and-Run While Riding Electric Bike in Clairemont

San Diego, CA (March 23, 2025) – A 36-year-old man riding an electric bicycle was struck and killed early Saturday morning in a hit-and-run collision in San Diego’s Clairemont Mesa East neighborhood.

Incident Details: The collision occurred at approximately 1:25 a.m. in the 6900 block of Balboa Avenue, where the victim was riding westbound in the bike lane. According to the San Diego Police Department, the bicyclist veered into the path of a vehicle traveling in the No. 2 lane, resulting in a deadly impact. The driver fled the scene. Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are searching for the suspect vehicle, described as a light-colored or gray 2016–2022 Mercedes Benz E-Class sedan with front-end damage and a missing grill. Investigators continue to examine the cause of the crash and whether roadway design or speed played a role. Hit-and-run fatalities can lead to wrongful death claims once the responsible party is identified, especially when negligence or fleeing the scene is involved.
