Chico Pedestrian Accident Claims Life of Frank Moodie

Chico, CA (July 24, 2024) – Frank Moodie, 69, was struck by a vehicle while in his motorized wheelchair. This tragic accident led to the arrest of Jennifer Jackson, 50, of Chico.

Accident Details: A collision occurred at the intersection of Park Avenue and East 12th Street on July 24. Moodie was crossing the street on a green light when he was hit by Jackson’s vehicle, which was reportedly running a red light at the time.

Moodie was initially hospitalized with severe injuries and sadly succumbed to his injuries three weeks later. Investigators are also examining whether Jackson’s cell phone use may have played a role in the crash. Before striking Moodie, Jackson is said to have sideswiped a stopped vehicle.

Jackson was taken into custody on August 31, 2024. He is facing charges of gross vehicular manslaughter and is currently held at the Butte County Jail with bail set at $60,000.

Legal Considerations: As a personal injury attorney, I find that critical areas for legal investigation will include:

  • Traffic Light Timing and Witness Testimonies: Confirming the traffic light phases and gathering testimonies from witnesses at the intersection can help establish whether Jackson ran the red light.
  • Cell Phone Usage: Investigating whether Jackson was using her cell phone at the time of the crash could be crucial. If distracted driving is confirmed, it could significantly impact the determination of gross negligence.
  • Vehicle Condition and Driver Behavior: Reviewing Jackson’s driving history and any potential mechanical issues with her vehicle could provide additional context to the case.

If negligence is established in this case, Frank Moodie’s family may have grounds to file a wrongful death claim against Jennifer Jackson. Such a claim could provide them with compensation for the emotional and financial losses they’ve suffered as a result of Moodie’s untimely death.

My sincerest condolences are with the family and friends of Frank Moodie during this difficult time.
