Cheryl Spangler Seriously Injured in Modesto Hit-and-Run; Suspect Magali Sevilla Arrested

Modesto, CA (March 26, 2025) – A Modesto woman has been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a pedestrian with major injuries. The California Highway Patrol announced the arrest of Magali Sevilla, 24, on felony charges following the March 18 collision that seriously injured Cheryl Spangler, 48, also of Modesto.

Incident Details: The crash occurred on South Seventh Street, just south of Blankenburg Avenue. Authorities say Sevilla struck Spangler and then fled the scene. Spangler sustained major injuries and was transported for emergency medical care. Details about her current condition have not been released.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Following an investigation, CHP identified Sevilla as the driver and arrested her on a felony hit-and-run charge. If convicted, she could face significant criminal penalties. In addition, Spangler may be eligible to pursue a personal injury claim for medical expenses, lost wages, and pain and suffering. In hit-and-run incidents, courts often consider punitive damages to further penalize egregious conduct.

Wishing Cheryl Spangler a full and swift recovery.
