San Diego, California (August 30, 2025) — Authorities have identified 61-year-old Celeste Necochea as the victim of a fatal hit-and-run crash near Sea World Drive in San Diego, according to the San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office.
Incident Details: Necochea was found dead around 1 p.m. on August 30 under damaged trees and bushes near the site of a crash that occurred the previous night on Sea World Drive near West Mission Bay Drive. Investigators determined she had been a passenger in a vehicle involved in a hit-and-run collision. She was discovered approximately 12 hours after the crash by a passerby.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The San Diego Police Department is investigating the incident. Authorities said the driver fled on foot and remains at large. No suspect has been taken into custody, and police have not released details regarding the vehicle or the individual responsible. Fatal hit-and-run crashes can lead to charges of vehicular manslaughter, DUI (if applicable), and felony fleeing the scene. Necochea’s family may also consider filing a wrongful death claim once the suspect is identified, seeking compensation for funeral costs, loss of support, and emotional damages.
I extend my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Celeste Necochea as they grieve this tragic loss.
