Fresno, CA (May 9, 2024) — A tragic accident on Highway 41 in Fresno County resulted in the death of a young man late Thursday night, according to the Fresno County Coroner’s office. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Cedric Gonzalez of Fresno.
Incident Overview: The crash occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 41 and South Avenue near Easton. A 57-year-old was operating a semi-truck loaded with grapefruits and was preparing to make a left turn. He stopped in the westbound lane of South Avenue at a stop sign, then crossed the northbound lanes and paused in the intersection to wait for southbound traffic. His trailer was blocking the No. 1 northbound lane of Highway 41 when Gonzalez, traveling northbound in a Nissan, collided with the left rear side of the semi-trailer. Gonzalez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. The circumstances of the crash, including whether drugs or alcohol were involved, remain under investigation by the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
Investigation and Legal Considerations: CHP continues to investigate the crash to determine contributing factors and whether there was any negligence involved. Depending on the investigation’s findings, there could be grounds for legal action, such as a wrongful death claim, particularly if it is found that the truck’s position in the intersection contributed to the accident.
