Cathy Hewett Killed, Another Critically Injured in Semi-Truck Collision in Columbus

Columbus, OH (June 30, 2025) – A multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck in southwest Columbus on Monday afternoon has left one woman dead and another person critically injured.

Accident Details: The collision occurred at the intersection of Georgesville Road and Auto Mall Drive around 12:42 p.m., according to Fire Chief Jeffrey Geitter. According to police and fire officials, a 2003 Lincoln Town Car was traveling north on Georgesville Road. While attempting to turn left onto Auto Mall Drive, the vehicle was struck by a southbound 2020 Freightliner Cascadia semi-truck.

The impact occurred on the passenger side of the Lincoln. Both occupants of the Lincoln had to be extracted from the wreckage and were transported to the hospital in critical condition. Passenger, 75-year-old Cathy Hewett, later died from her injuries. The driver of the Lincoln remains hospitalized, while the semi-truck driver sought medical evaluation on his own.

Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are actively reviewing the crash. The investigators will likely examine:

  • Right-of-way dynamics at the intersection,
  • Surveillance footage,
  • Witness accounts,
  • Black box data of the semi-truck, and
  • Vehicle speed and braking data.

Depending on the findings of the investigation, Hewett’s family may have the right to pursue a wrongful death claim. The injured driver may be able to file a personal injury claim.

I offer my deepest condolences to Hewett’s family and friends. I wish the injured driver a fast recovery.
