Silver Spring, MD (October 14, 2025) – One person was hospitalized Tuesday morning after a multi-vehicle crash on the Capital Beltway that involved two tractor-trailers and caused significant lane closures near Connecticut Avenue, according to Maryland State Police.
Accident Details: Troopers responded shortly after 5 a.m. to the Inner Loop of I-495 at Connecticut Avenue for an overturned tractor-trailer. When they arrived, the truck’s cab was blocking lanes on the Outer Loop while the trailer had come to rest across the Inner Loop. Several additional vehicles were struck, resulting in property damage. The driver of one tractor-trailer was taken to Suburban Hospital for treatment. Lanes 1 and 2 in both directions were expected to remain closed for an extended period while crews uprighted the rig and cleared wreckage, with traffic getting by in lanes 3 and 4.
Investigation: Maryland State Police continue to investigate how the tractor-trailer overturned and how the secondary impacts occurred. Investigators are assessing vehicle positions, debris fields, and any available traffic-camera footage to determine contributing factors such as speed, lane changes, and following distance. No citations or additional injuries had been reported in initial updates. The crash remains under investigation.
