Calexico, CA (April 17, 2025) – A man was killed early Thursday morning in a hit-and-run crash involving a suspected semi-truck on Highway 111 near Jasper Road, according to the Calexico Police Department.
Accident Details: The incident occurred around 6:19 a.m. when officers responded to reports of a man down along the east shoulder of Highway 111, just south of Jasper Road. Upon arrival, police found an unresponsive Hispanic man near his parked vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators believe the man was standing near his vehicle when he was struck by another vehicle. The impact caused his body to come to rest on the east shoulder of Jasper Road. Evidence at the scene indicates the suspect vehicle is a black Volvo semi-truck, likely with moderate to significant damage to the front right bumper and fender.
Legal Considerations: Hit-and-run crashes that result in death are treated as felony offenses under California law. In this case, police are investigating the collision as a vehicular homicide. If the driver is located, they could face both criminal charges and civil liability for fleeing the scene and failing to render aid.
The victim’s family may also have the right to file a wrongful death claim if the responsible party is identified.
