Buffalo County, SD (July 24, 2025) – A deadly crash involving a semi truck and a Toyota passenger car claimed the life of one person Thursday evening in Buffalo County.
Accident Details: According to the South Dakota Department of Public Safety, the crash occurred around 5:45 p.m. on U.S. Highway 281. A semi truck collided with a Toyota Camry under unclear circumstances. The Toyota driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver was not injured.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: Authorities are investigating contributing factors such as speed, visibility, and possible driver distraction. In fatal truck crashes, liability can extend to the driver, the trucking company, or a third party depending on the circumstances. The family of the deceased may be eligible to pursue a wrongful death claim.
