Brutus, NY (August 7, 2025) — A tractor-trailer driver was killed and two occupants of another vehicle were injured Thursday afternoon in a collision on Interstate 90 eastbound in Brutus, according to New York State Police.
Incident Details: Authorities report that at approximately 4:57 p.m., a tractor-trailer driven by 50-year-old Mark Shidler of Applecreek, Ohio, veered from the westbound passing lane, crossed the median and guiderail, and struck a 2022 Honda traveling eastbound. The impact caused the Honda to roll several times before coming to rest, trapping the driver and passenger inside. One passenger was airlifted to Upstate Hospital in Syracuse with serious injuries and is in stable but critical condition. The second was transported by ambulance and later released. Shidler was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigation and Legal Considerations: The crash caused a 5.1-mile traffic backup for about three hours before the scene was cleared. State Police are investigating the cause, which may involve reviewing vehicle condition, driver health, and roadway factors. In truck accidents with fatalities and severe injuries, victims and their families may have the right to pursue claims for medical costs, lost income, and wrongful death damages.
I extend my condolences to the family of Mark Shidler and my hopes for a full recovery to those injured.
